ZITF Lights Up the City of Kings: The Cultural Pulse Behind Zimbabwe’s Premier Trade Showcase
By: David Manema | Senior Correspondent
The City of Kings is coming alive this week as the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) brings its characteristic industrial energy to Bulawayo. However, beyond the boardroom deals and exhibition stands, the city’s soul is pulsating in its nightlife. This is where business meets pleasure, and where the economic narrative of the nation finds its rhythm.
As visitors and locals converge, the city’s entertainment spots have become the ultimate networking grounds, proving that the ZITF experience is as much about cultural exchange as it is about commerce.
The Rhythm of Trade
While business takes centre stage during the day, attention is shifting to the city’s vibrant nightlife. Bulawayo’s entertainment spots are operating at full capacity as locals and international visitors unwind, connect, and continue the conversations that started at the fairgrounds.
Networking After Dark
The city's bars and clubs are more than just leisure spots; they are the informal hubs where the next big investment deals are often conceptualized over a shared appreciation for Bulawayo's unique hospitality.
To close the week, the iconic Bulawayo Shutdown has been rebranded as the Harris Music Festival. Taking place on Saturday—the public day of the fair—the event has evolved into a regular finale that draws massive crowds to wrap up the ZITF experience with world-class performances.
The Gaffa Returns
Zimbabwean icon Winky D headlines the show, returning to Bulawayo to reclaim his crown. He is flanked by a powerhouse of local talent including Msiz’kay, Tiff, DJ Sfiso, Prince Eskhosini, and DJ Eugy, hosted by MTKay Ntwana.
The festival isn't just a local affair; it boasts a significant regional feel. South African superstar Makhadzi leads the international contingent, celebrating her 30th birthday and a triumphant return to the stage after her car accident last year.
A Diverse Sonic Landscape
From the Afro-house of NaakMusiQ and the Amapiano energy of Kamo Mphela to the Maskandi elements of Mthandeni SK, the lineup is a masterclass in regional diversity. Emerging acts like Scotts Maphuma, Cowboii, and Jazz Worx ensure the festival appeals to every demographic.
"All Systems Go"
Event organiser Tonderai Rice confirms that advance ticket sales are breaking previous records. "The city is buzzing. We have secured extra parking and logistics to ensure attendees focus on the music, not the inconvenience," he stated.
The David Manema Verdict
Bulawayo remains the undisputed cultural capital of Zimbabwe, especially under the glare of ZITF lights.
Cultural Sovereignty
The transition from the Bulawayo Shutdown to the Harris Music Festival is more than a name change; it is a rebranding of ambition. By combining local legends with regional giants, Bulawayo is proving that its capacity for entertainment is as robust as its capacity for trade. This Saturday, the City of Kings doesn't just host a show—it makes history.
