A New Dawn for the Grid
In a historic move, Zimbabwe has commissioned a sprawling 100MW solar photovoltaic plant near Redcliff. Spanning 250 hectares, this facility is a collaboration between ZESA and PowerChina, representing a US$120 million investment in national energy security.
Capacity: 100 megawatts—enough to power approximately 100,000 homes and drive massive industrial operations in the Midlands Province.
Beyond the Panels
Generation is only half the battle. This plant features a cutting-edge 20MW/40MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). At Sona Solar Zimbabwe, we know that storage is the key to reliability. This component ensures the grid remains stable even when the sun isn't shining.
Strategic Edge: By integrating BESS, the plant provides a consistent power supply, effectively mitigating the fluctuations historically seen in hydro and coal output.
Powering the Economy

- Employment: Over 500 jobs created during construction and 100 permanent roles for O&M.
- Green Goals: Estimated reduction of 150,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
