Snubbed but Unstoppable: NAMA 24’s Biggest Shocks & Record Moments

In a surprising turn for his massive online following, Comic Elder walked away empty-handed at the 24th edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) held at the HICC. Despite high expectations, the comedian faced stiff competition in the Outstanding Social Media Skits category.

The coveted gong was scooped by Tokoloshi (Sean Khoza/Code Red Studios), who was recognized for superior engagement and creativity within the digital landscape. Comic Elder’s double nomination, which included the People’s Choice Award, unfortunately failed to translate into silverware on a night that celebrated technical mastery over sheer popularity.

The "Gaffer," Winky D, once again proved why he is the most decorated artist in Zimbabwean history. Winning the People's Choice Award for the 10th time, he extended a record-breaking run that spans nearly 15 years.

A History of Dominance

2011, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2024, 2025, & 2026.

Winky D also secured the Outstanding Music Video award for "Fake Love," directed by Jusa Dementor, matching the two-award haul of his career-long rival, Jah Prayzah.

The emotional apex of the night occurred when Nisha Ts was named Outstanding Female Artist. In a move that moved the audience to a standing ovation, she invited her grandmother—the woman who raised her in Chegutu and Mhondoro—onto the stage to share the glory.

"She looked after me when no one else could. She prayed for me when I had nothing. Since day one, she believed in me. This award is for her." — Nisha Ts.

She specifically acknowledged Tinashe Mutarisi for investing in her potential and Jah Prayzah for his invaluable mentorship, marking a transition from local struggle to national superstardom.

The race for Outstanding Song of the Year was a battle of digital titans. The competition pitted Jah Prayzah’s lyrical prowess against the explosive growth of Nutty O and the steady popularity of Nisha Ts.

In the end, Nutty O's "Too Much" claimed the gong, with judges likely rewarding the song's explosive cultural impact and rapid digital engagement over raw cumulative numbers.
