The Power of Peace of Mind: Redefining Solar Excellence

Powering With Peace of Mind: A Lesson in Solar Excellence

Safety Awareness: Understanding high-capacity systems and the importance of professional synergy in the Zimbabwe Solar Industry.

Safety First: Protecting Your Solar Investment

A Moment for Industry Reflection

Recently, our industry observed a significant incident involving a 40kVA solar system that caught fire. While the investigation by RoyEno SolarTech and Dyness SA is ongoing, this event serves as a vital reminder for all of us. In the solar community, we don't view these moments as competition, but as an opportunity to raise the safety bar for every Zimbabwean.

Large-scale systems (40kVA and above) manage immense electrical loads. At this level, there is zero margin for error in cabling, heat management, or component calibration.

Safety is a collective goal. When one installer learns a lesson, the whole industry grows stronger.

The Science of System Harmony

A high-end solar system is more than just hardware; it is a software-driven ecosystem. The Inverter and the Lithium Battery must communicate perfectly via a Battery Management System (BMS).

When components are sourced from different suppliers (e.g., "only panels" vs "self-supplied batteries"), there is a risk of communication breakdown. If the inverter doesn't receive the correct data from the battery, it can lead to overcharging or thermal events. We always advocate for Integrated Solutions where compatibility is guaranteed.

The Non-Negotiable Protection Kit

To make quotes more attractive, some installers might be tempted to remove "Protection Kits." These include DC Breakers, Surge Protectors, and AC Changeover switches.

At Sona Solar, we believe these are mandatory. They are designed to "trip" and shut down the entire system the millisecond a fault is detected. Without them, a small short-circuit can turn into a major fire. We will never compromise on these safety features to lower a price.

Investing in quality protection is significantly cheaper than replacing a home or business.

Professionalism & Ownership

We believe that an installer's responsibility doesn't stop at the hardware they sell. When Sona Solar enters a site, we take ownership of the safety of the entire environment. This includes verifying existing wiring, testing earthing systems, and ensuring that even equipment we didn't supply is up to code.

Our technicians are required to document all technical settings and take photographic evidence of the internal wiring of every distribution board (DB) to ensure long-term accountability.

Your Solar Safety Checklist

  • Verify Compatibility: Ask your installer for proof that the battery and inverter brands are officially supported for communication.
  • Demand Protection: Ensure your system includes a dedicated DC/AC protection box with working breakers.
  • Annual Safety Audits: Large systems should be inspected once a year for loose connections caused by heat expansion.
  • Professional Installation: Avoid "patchwork" jobs where multiple unqualified parties handle different parts of the system.

Building a Brighter, Safer Future
