The CEO of Your Soul: Taking Full Stock of Your Choices and Their Dividends

The Mirror of Ownership

A David Manema Teaching on the Art of Taking Accountability for Your Life’s Design.

The Weight of the Pen: You are Writing the Story You Have to Read

We live in a world that has mastered the art of the "finger-point." We blame the economy, our upbringing, our bosses, or the weather. But let me tell you something I have learned: Accountability is the first step toward freedom.

Think of your life as a building. You might not have chosen the plot of land you were born on, but you are the architect holding the blueprints today. Every brick laid is a choice you made. When the roof leaks, you can blame the rain, or you can take accountability and fix the tiles. Only one of those actions keeps you dry.

Every morning, you stand at a crossroads. Some decisions are loud, and some are quiet whispers. Consider the person who chooses to spend their last $50 on a "soft life" dinner to impress friends, versus the one who buys stock for a small side-hustle.

Both made a decision. Both will have to live with the result. Accountability means admitting: "I am not broke because of the system; I am broke because I chose temporary status over permanent stability." When you own your bad decisions, you finally gain the power to make good ones.

"You are free to choose, but you are never free from the consequences of your choice."

Accountability isn't just about taking the blame when things go wrong; it’s about having the integrity to own your successes too. If you are fit, it’s because you chose the gym over the couch. If you are skilled, it’s because you chose the book over the remote.

Take the example of a student. Two people have the same exam. One spends the night studying; the other spends it scrolling. When results come, the study-hard student owns their 'A' with pride. The other must own their 'F' with the same honesty. You cannot claim the harvest if you didn't own the planting season.

Many of us live on "Autopilot." we react instead of responding. Accountability requires you to slow down. Before you speak, before you buy, before you quit, or before you commit—put time and thought into it.

Ask yourself: "Can I live with the version of me that this decision creates?" Because at the end of the day, you are the one who has to sleep in the bed you made. Your friends won't live your life. your parents won't live your life. Only you.

The moment you say, "Everything in my life is my responsibility," is the moment you become unstoppable. If it’s your responsibility, it means you have the power to change it. If it’s someone else’s fault, you have to wait for them to change for your life to get better. Why would you give your power away like that?

Stop being a passenger in your own journey. Take the wheel. Own the mistakes, celebrate the wins, and think before you move.

Final Thoughts

Life is a symphony of choices. Some notes will be sour, and some will be sweet. But remember—you are the conductor. Own the music. Put thought into every note. Because when the curtain falls, you are the one who has to live with the performance. Own it all.
