The Zimbabwean flag is set to fly high in Durban this August. Fast-rising Afro-fusion star Agga Nyabinde has struck gold after being officially selected to perform at the prestigious Music Imbizo 2026, cementing his place as one of Africa’s most compelling new voices.
In a massive breakthrough for the local arts scene, Nyabinde stands as the only Zimbabwean artist curated for this year’s continental showcase, which will run from August 26 to 29 in Durban, South Africa.
From Harare to the World
Nyabinde will join an elite roster of artists, including heavyweights from Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya. His inclusion signals a growing international recognition of the unique Zimbabwean Afro-fusion sound.
Featured Peers
Sharing the stage with stars like Abiana (Ghana), Jesse Ibidun (Nigeria), and Lioness (Namibia), Nyabinde is set to prove that Zimbabwe’s creative industry can compete at the highest global levels.
Known for his rich fusion of traditional rhythms and Afro-jazz, Nyabinde is intentional about his performance style. “Our presentation is a mixture of exotic Zimbabwean traditional beats and Afro-jazz,” he explains.
In His Own Words
“It’s not just about me; it’s about Zimbabwean music being recognized beyond our borders. I want a situation where a simple tune reminds people about the beauty of our country.”
Growth & Gratitude
Riding the momentum of the Imbizo announcement, Nyabinde revealed he is finalizing a new album for 2026. A standout track, "Makaita Henyu" (Thank You Very Much), features award-winning actor and singer Dhyaan Kumar.
The project reflects Nyabinde’s evolution as a songwriter and his commitment to pushing the boundaries of Afro-fusion while staying true to his roots.
The Cultural Verdict
Agga Nyabinde is doing more than performing; he is marketing Zimbabwe as a cultural powerhouse.
Fly the Flag High
As the solo representative of our nation at Music Imbizo 2026, Agga carries the hopes of the local arts scene. His success in Durban will undoubtedly open doors for the next generation of Zimbabwean creatives.
