Canada-based Urban Grooves pioneer Tinos “Slicey T” Viriri is proving that great music has no expiry date. Celebrating a milestone 26 years in the industry, Viriri has released a high-octane remix of the legendary track “Ndiwe Wandinoda,” uniting the genre's founding fathers with the explosive sound of Zimdancehall’s finest.

THE ANNIVERSARY REMIX

Slicey T has successfully bridged the 26-year gap between the original Slice Band era and today's high-energy Zimdancehall scene.

Beyond the studio, Viriri is doubling down on his role as a cultural ambassador. By facilitating international collaborations and live performance opportunities in North America, he is paving the way for Zimbabwean talent to achieve global recognition.

The "Ndiwe Wandinoda" Resurrection

The newly released remix is more than just a song; it is a "powerful meeting point" between the pioneers of Urban Grooves and the Ama2k generation shaping today’s sound.

The Fresh Line-up

Featured Artists: The track features a powerhouse roster including Roki (who handles the iconic chorus), Silent Killer, Blot, Hulungende, Madedido, Mr Attention, Kadja, and Bazooka.

Production Magic

The Sound: Produced by the renowned T-Man of Mt Zion Music, the remix infuses the original sound identity with a modern musical feel, designed to appeal to listeners who weren't even born when the original dropped 26 years ago.

26 Years of Urban Grooves

Reflecting on the journey, Slicey T noted that talking about Urban Grooves without mentioning the Slice Band is impossible. Back in the day, the group had to fight for airtime in an era dominated by traditional genres.

Pre-Social Media Struggles

"It was very difficult to be embraced considering that we relied solely on radio and television to promote our music," Slicey T recalled. The original track featured Lenin Chingaira, Gaylord Gwatidzo, Collen Sondayi, and Allen Mpanduki.

Bridging the Gap

Slicey T emphasized that this anniversary project aims to show the new generation the passion that fueled the industry before Artificial Intelligence and social media became the norm.

International Ambitions

Now based in Canada, Slicey T has successfully transitioned from being just an artist to a major promoter of Zimbabwean talent overseas.

A Proven Track Record

Slicey T has already played a key role in promoting icons like Jah Prayzah, Killer T, and the late Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi abroad. He believes it is his "duty" to continue uplifting his countrymen.

The Next Wave

Future Plans: Slicey T revealed that plans are already underway to take the entire remix line-up—including Roki, Blot, Silent Killer, and others—to perform live in North America, exposing their talent to a global audience.

David Manema Verdict

Unity Over Competition

Slicey T’s decision to include Zimdancehall heavyweights like Silent Killer and Bazooka on an Urban Grooves classic is a masterstroke in cultural diplomacy. By putting "country first," he is dismantling the silos between genres and creating a unified front for Zimbabwean music on the international stage.

The Global Impression

Exposure is the missing link for many local stars. Slicey T’s infrastructure in North America provides a rare, legitimate bridge for Zim talent to cross over. If he succeeds in taking this "Ama2k" lineup overseas, it could mark a significant shift in how Zimbabwean music is consumed and valued in the diaspora.
