Harare Regional Magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka has delivered a definitive blow to a sophisticated land scam operation. Mavis Madzivanzira (sister to Prophet Passion Java) and her accomplice, Pauline Gutsa, have been convicted of nine counts of fraud involving nearly US$120,000. While their legal associate, Proud Mutuso, was cleared due to an airtight alibi in South Sudan, the directors of Segimel Investments now face the full weight of the law.
The pair is currently held in remand prison awaiting a pre-sentence hearing, marking a sharp contrast to the luxury often associated with the family name.
The deception was built on high-authority misrepresentation. Madzivanzira and Gutsa leveraged Segimel Investments to present forged "Harare City Council site plans" for proposed subdivisions. By simulating institutional legitimacy, they convinced directors of construction companies and private individuals to deposit massive sums into attorney trust accounts.
In one instance, a single victim lost US$97,450 after paying for nine non-existent stands, only to discover through the City of Harare database that the land simply did not exist in a residential capacity.
The duo targeted high-value "Leafy Suburbs" to maximize their fraudulent intake. The non-existent stands were allegedly located in:
- Milton Park: Stands valued at US$15,000 each.
- Vainona & Logan Park: High-density investment plots.
- Gunhill & Greendale: Prime residential land where one victim negotiated a "discounted" US$20,000 for a stand that turned out to be non-residential.
The victims only realized the depth of the betrayal when they attempted to secure deeds of cession, only to find the "directors" had already siphoned the funds and vanished.
As a marketing and strategy expert, David Manema notes the intense social irony surrounding this case. While Prophet Passion Java has distanced himself from his sister's actions, his public declaration of 2026 as "Gore Rekungangurwa" (The Year of Arrests) appears to have manifested within his own household.
