Ghost Battles: The Exhausting Art of Fighting Problems That Don’t Exist

Winning the Ghost Battles

To my dear friends and family: Most of our exhaustion doesn't come from the work we do, but from the battles we fight in our imagination.

Ghost Battles: Why Your Imagination is Stealing the Peace That Reality Already Gave You

Do you realize that most of your suffering hasn't actually happened? We are masters at replaying worst-case scenarios and rehearsing future pain. We exhaust our souls fighting ghosts—battles that exist only in the script of our minds.

Reality is rarely as heavy as your imagination makes it. You aren't tired from living; you're tired from "pre-living" problems that haven't arrived yet.

When your mind starts to spiral into next month, next year, or "what if," stop and ask yourself one simple question:

"What is truly unbearable RIGHT NOW?"

In this exact second, as you breathe, you are likely safe. You are likely fed. You are likely okay. Often, the "unbearable" part is actually far smaller than the mountain your mind built. When you break life down into seconds, it becomes manageable.

You were not designed to carry the weight of your entire future today. You were given enough grace for the next 24 hours—no more, no less. Peace begins the very moment overthinking ends. When you stop rehearsing the storm, you start noticing the sun.

Focus on the step you are taking, not the ten miles you haven't walked yet.

To my loved ones: Lay down the sword you're using to fight tomorrow's shadows. Rest in the truth that you are held in this moment.

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." — Matthew 6:34 "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." — 2 Timothy 1:7
