Churches: The Frontline in Zimbabwe's Fight to Restore Core Moral Values

Zimbabwe’s Churches Called to Strengthen Moral Values Amid Rising Social Challenges

Churches Encouraged to Step Up Moral Guidance

Across Zimbabwe, religious leaders are calling churches to actively strengthen spiritual and moral values as society battles with increasing levels of drug abuse, moral decay, and the collapse of traditional community ethics, especially among the youth.

Rising Social Pressures Call on Zimbabwe’s Churches to Lead in Upholding Morality

The Church is being asked not just to preach — but to shape character, reinforce values, and restore discipline.

A Powerful Mass in Hatcliffe — A Clear Message

This message echoed strongly at St Augustine’s Parish in Hatcliffe, where the Roman Catholic Redemptorists held a special mass emphasizing that churches still carry the highest responsibility in shaping moral behavior and the spiritual wellbeing of citizens.

A Ceremony Witnessed by National Leadership

The mass was attended by the Vice President General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga and his wife Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga, who joined hundreds of congregants to celebrate six committed brothers taking lifelong vows in the Redemptorist Congregation.

Father Kunaka’s Call for Unity in Moral Formation

The Vicar of the Redemptorist Region of Zimbabwe, Father Francis Kunaka urged Christians from all denominations to unite in strengthening spiritual resilience and building moral discipline, especially among youths who now face an increased wave of substance use and peer pressure.

He commended the six brothers for choosing purpose over comfort, calling their commitment a powerful example for the younger generation.

A Journey of Discipline, Courage & Dedication

As Father Kunaka highlighted — these young men spent eight to nine years preparing for this commitment. Their final vows do not just strengthen the Redemptorist congregation alone — but extend a strong signal to the entire Christian community that dedication, sacrifice, and moral responsibility still matter.

The Bigger Message to Zimbabwe

Their decision is a reminder that Zimbabwe still needs strong moral voices — churches that guide, families that nurture, and communities that protect their young people from the pressures of drugs, fast life, and moral confusion.

Our young generation must not be left to fight these battles alone. The Church is needed. The community is needed. Guidance is needed.

This moment is a call to rebuild values, reinforce discipline, and restore spiritual identity — together.
